The mountain bluebird is a medium-sized bird weighing about an ounce and measuring 15-20 cm (6-8 inches) in length. They have light-colored underbelly and black eyes.

Adult males have thin beaks with bright blue front and light blue back. Adult females have dull blue wings, a similar gray breast, and a gray crest, neck, and back.

A good smooth surface can be obtained by sanding, staining and polishing. The drying is fast, and the deformation is small and the degree of aging is low. The shrinkage rate is quite large when drying, but the dimensional stability is good.
